How to get an EIN number from Australia-my experience

If you have ever tried to get an ITIN and was knocked back, you will love my guts by the end of this blog!

Okay, let me start off with a thank you from an awesome author who pointed me in this direction after I spent over $400 attempting to get the dreaded ITIN from the IRS.
Karly, as always my wingman, you rock!
So I read this blog which explained that you didn't actually need this ITIN after all because we could use the more friendlier version known as an EIN-employment identification number.
Now I was given a number on this blog and told to skype it with a microphone.
Let's quickly fix this problem: You don't need a microphone. If you have mobile phone ear plugs with a microphone, you're set!
Now for the phone number...OMG I tried every number given and none worked. I was ready to throw it all when a friend who calls England said there is additional number we need to dial first. Hello!
So I have the number now and I'm ready to call.
Now, I dont normally skype(call) so I had to buy credit. $16.00 was the minimum so I thought, hell. I have already spent hundreds, wha'ts another $16.
Pft, skype kept kicking me off after it connects and I've been on hold for ten minutes. GAH!
Back to the phone I go and accept that at the end of the month I will have a bigger phone bill. Oh well, I'm quite over it all by now so who gives an eff. LOL.
I call and I get a guy who transfers me to the department for over the phone application and before I know it....I am the owner of one EIN!

Here is the instructions I followed:

  1. Call 00111 2679411099   (the 0011 is the important bit I was talking about)
  2. option 2
  3. next part doesn't give you an EIN option so I pressed EIN and got an operator within a minute who I said I wanted to apply for an EIN from a foreign state and he transferred me right away.
  4. They will ask why and you will tell them you are a sole proprietor who needs an EIN for foreign tax withholding
  5. They will ask if you have a social security number, ITIN number and filled out a form- say No and you are fine.  On the blog I got some info from said if they ask you to fill out a form first, hang up and start process again, you should get another operator. But this didn't happen to me.
  6.  They will ask for you address and phone number
  7. They will ask if you will be wagering, gambling and operating heavy machinery and trucks.- say NO.
  8. Will you be hiring anyone in the next 12 months- If I get famous maybe. LOL. I said that. Apparently it helps.
  9. They check your details against the system to make sure you don't already have an EIN and then....SNAP! You have an EIN!
Have a nice day.

So, I'm hoping this will help you. If you don't live in Australia, this probably wont help you. Sorry.

Any questions, ask. I'm happy to help.

A Game Worth Watching is a book worth reading!!!

A Game Worth Watching is a book worth reading!!!

I had the privilege to read a book after hubs wentt to bed Valentines night and my birthday morning and it didn't disappoint!
Now that you have that straight, listen to me when I say...A Game Worth Watching by Samantha Gudger is a must read book.
It's sweet and had me smile, hug myself and damn it, I cried! Yep the salty ugly kind of cry.
Honestly, 5/5.
It was very well written and had me from go. I love the journey ALL the characters had to go through and how they grew with the help of One girl who thought she had zero effect on any soul. Riley and Emma are beautifully put together and there isn't one point in the book I could  fault.
I stayed up late Valentines Day and early rise on my BIRTHDAY no less and that's a day I should be allowed a sleep in; although I did have to work too. LOL. Anyway, I was running late for work and only had 6 pages to go...SIX pages! Who can leave a book at six pages to go?
A girl who needs to keep her job ;)
As soon as I got home though, I was jumping in my jammies because they are the best reading attire in the world and I flopped on the lounge ready for the finale...Samantha, God bless her imagination is a beautiful author and A Game Worth Watching has made it to my top love list.
Thank you Samantha!

P.S, I like Basketball ight now and I see Emma as Emma Stone if there comes a movie. Just saying!

Here is a bit about the lovely Samantha
A former three-sport athlete in high school, Samantha grew up with a ball in one hand and a book in the other. From the moment her first grade teacher asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, Samantha knew she wanted to be an author.

Samantha currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, a ball-obsessed Australian Shepherd, and a cat that can’t get enough cuddle time. Books, writing, sports, music, and marshmallows top her list of favorites.

A Game Worth Watching is her first novel.

Book Excerpt:

Riley grew quiet and still, studying her in the moonlight. When the seconds stretched into an eternity, Emma bowed her head, unable to look at him any longer. She could only imagine what thoughts he entertained in that stubborn head of his.
He leaned in to look at her downturned face. “You deserve this opportunity, Em,” he said softly. “Who knows where it will take you?”
When she lifted her eyes to his, he put on his you-can’t-resist-me puppy dog face. “For me?”
Why did he always have to make things so complicated? Did it really matter if she didn’t go to college or play on some stupid girls’ team?
She growled in frustration and jumped off the log to escape. Wrong move. Riley’s arms shot out, trapping her between his body and the log, forcing her to face him and the conversation.
“Will you at least seriously consider it?” he asked. “Please?”
“The girls’ team is horrible.” It was a fact and everyone knew it.
“Maybe they wouldn’t be so horrible if you played for them,” Riley challenged.
“I’d be playing with girls who have hated me and teased me since elementary school.” Merely picturing their faces made her stomach churn.
“Since when are you afraid of a challenge?”
Emma injected as much pain as she could into her eyes to gain the pity vote. “I’ll be miserable.”
He secured her face between his hands. “I’ll support you every step of the way.”

Word Wars. The game for authors

There are some who may not know what word wars is, so I'll explain it as well as share my love for the mere idea.
As you would have seen in an earlier post I started this challenge of Club50 and the group is going strong with their goals. We have 19 days to go and I know I'm behind, but many are way on front.
Word Wars is where we all start at the same time, setting either 30 or 60 minutes to write and come back to the group with your word count.
I've found I don't have overly fast fingers in comparison to some of the writers here and I'm always proud and in awe of what they accomplish, not to mention my own.
Please note, we dont claim to have invented this game or type of challenge. I actually got the idea from RWA run 50k in 30 days which I always join. I wrote my second novel, Nudging Cupid in one of these challenges; which brings me to the topic at hand.
One of the tools we use in our group to drive our count is a game we call Word Wars. Now I know it is about quality and not quantity, but it's brilliant when you get both!
Some are even breaking the writers block. How fantastic is that.
Some are planning on finishing a WIP and some starting. Together we support and egg each other on and have fun.
Do I think writing words for the sake of count is effective, of course not. What author would, but this is up to you!
So if you get the chance to word war with some one, you dont need a group, it could be one other person. Heck, you could set a timer if you are so inclined, the point is to push yourself and relish in your accomplishments.

Currently, my word count for NEVER GOODBYE is 35,894.

So far in the challenge I've written 11,530.
Will I make the 50k?
I freaking hope so or it will be a tad embarrassing for the organiser to not make it. LOL
At the end of the day though, I have written more than I would have without the challenge and word wars. So thank you Club50 writers

Happy writing and reading,
Kez

Author spotlight shines down on Crime author Nina D'Angelo

Let me introduce an awesome Aussie Crime- fiction author who is on her way to making it big and leaving us behind...Nina D'Angelo.

The interrogation begins...

Tell us a little about yourself and how you became a writer.
I’m a freelance writer and photographer. I graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelors degree in Journalism and Public Relations. I’ve been working in the media since I was 18 – working for several music magazines before I briefly switched to PR in 2005. Not satisfied with my profession, I returned to freelance writing. Since I graduated from Deakin, I’ve written my own TV series, was a producer for a music show for three years, worked for several music magazines and have had my photography published in magazines worldwide.
I’ve always written creatively. From the moment I wrote my first story at the age of 6 (which was about the smurfs and eight pages long), I’ve written and never stopped. Right throughout University, I wrote creatively – for friends and for myself. I wrote a short story called The Perfect Crime for my Literature class and my lecturer told me I wrote in the same style as Tarrentino and I should look into writing professionally. At the time I laughed it off and thought he was joking.
A few years ago I started playing with the idea for a story and one night just started writing it. First it was a chapter and the next thing I knew it was 122,000 words and a novel. I never wrote the novel thinking, I want to get this published. I wrote it thinking. Okay, I need to write this – even if it’s just for me.
Wowzers!

Are you an Indie author or traditionally published?
I’m an Indie writer, but further down the track I would like to be traditionally published.

How do your stories come to life, from fiction or fantasy?
My stories tend to pop into my head and come to life as I write them.

Are you a ‘go with the flow’ writer or do you have structure?
I’m very much a go with the flow writer to begin with, but they then tend to develop structure. For my second novel, Nowhere to Hide, I’ve been a little more structured. I’ve written chapter summaries for the next few chapters and I’ve also used dot points to write down what I want to happen.

Have you always wanted to be a writer or did you want to be something else?
I knew by the time I was 8, I wanted to be a writer. By the time I was 10 I decided I wanted to run my own magazine, but when I was 12 decided I wanted to be a Journalist. Deep down inside, I wanted to write fiction but it was kind of a secret dream I wasn’t ready to share with anyone. I started taking it more seriously after someone read a novel I wrote and said to me I had to get myself published.

What groups are you affiliated with and how have they helped you through your journey of publication?
I belong to quite a few writing groups on facebook – including Books Anonymous and The Writers Club – The Writers Club is amazing. It’s a group of people who love writing. Everyone has either had their novels published or are in the throes of publishing them. It’s supportive, a group that provides solid advice and just a nice place to share your writing and your dreams with.
I can vouch for that group.  I love everyone there. It is important to have a good support system and they are part of that. <3 their guts!

How much marketing do you involve yourself in and with the mass consumption of social media, does this play a part in your marketing choice?
As much as people hate to admit it, marketing is an important part of an author’s life. I’ve been heavily involved in marketing my novel. I have a degree in Public Relations and it’s helped me in so many different ways. A lot of my decisions come from my experience in PR but also my instincts. Social Media is a major tool an author should use for promoting themselves and marketing their book. I’ve used social media to get my name out there. If it weren’t for social media, I’m not sure as many people would be aware of the authors out there and that would be a shame. I’ve found so many wonderful authors through the likes of Goodreads or Facebook.
Social Media allows you to control how you want to be marketed and gives you the voice to do it. People slam it all the time and yes, there are also some bad aspects of it, but most the time it is a wonderful learning curve and tool to use.

Here’s a random one for you. If you could be one animal, which would it be and why?
I’d be an Eagle, mainly because I like the idea of being free and soaring high.
I can see you as an eagle. But how will you hold your coffee?

What would you say is your inspiration to write in general or writing a particular scene?
I actually love to listen to music when I write. It inspires me, keeps me motivated and it allows me to block our surrounding sounds. Music helps me get focused. I also find writing when I am emotional is brilliant. The emotion I feel spills onto the paper. Most the time though I get so wrapped up in my own writing, I lose myself in that world.
Music...worlds...losing ones self. I'm there with you on those. Maybe we escape?

Tell me about how you came up with your title and cover?
I had a wonderful cover designer in the form of Scarlett Ruger from Scarlett Ruger designs. She really listened to what I wanted. I told her I wanted to show Los Angeles with blood over the Hollywood sign. This eventuated to Los Angeles with blood spatter on the title and also over the city with the background showing a killing moon (blood red moon). The title is also spattered in blood with shattered glass and a police strobe light. She came up with several different concepts before we landed on the cover I have now. She really worked hard to take my ideas and develop them onto paper and I think she nailed it.
I actually had the name about 3 pages into the novel. The name Nowhere to Run came from the fact my main character, Stephanie Carovella is being stalked by a serial killer who knows her every move and won’t stop until he ‘claims her’. He follows his victims and hunts them down until there is nowhere left for them to run. It’s also about my main character standing up for what she believes in and deciding she’s not going to be afraid anymore. She’s going to take him on and go down fighting.

Do you have any tips for other aspiring writers or authors out there?
Read and read widely. Reading helps strengthen your own writing. It’s also a good way to find out what’s hot right now and what’s been done.
Join writing groups and get to know fellow authors. Network. You’d be surprised at what you can learn just from talking to other authors. It’s also a great way to meet new people who are going through the same journey you’re going through, or who have been through the journey.
Keep writing. Even if you write a few lines of your novel a day, you’re writing it. If you don’t want to write your novel, write a blog entry or something else but write every day. It keeps your writing sharp and it gives you focus.
Lastly, don’t give up on your dreams. If your dream is to be an author, then do it. Make it happen. If people tell you you’re never going to amount to anything, ignore them. Only you will know deep down inside whether it can happen for you and if you’re determined and focused, it will happen.

So, I think we’ve gotten to know you a little now. How’s about we step it up a notch. Are you panicking? Lol. Do you have any dirty little secrets or confessions you’d like to share with us- what’s on the blog stays on the blog, right guys. (wink)
I’m an adrenaline junkie. I love doing crazy things. I’ve jumped out of a helicopter, skydived, bungee-jumped and para-glided 28,000 feet off the Austrian Alps.
Did I mention I’m afraid of heights?
Do you think it's the addiction to caffeine that boosts your adrenaline? I'm scared for you merely reading this. lol

Where’s your favourite place to write?
I love writing in my bedroom, preferably late at night. I put headphones on and write. I find it soothing and calming. It’s a bad habit to write in my bedroom and I need to get out of it, but at the moment it’s the only place I can get peace and quiet.

Tell us of your releases- where and when can we buy them?
Nowhere to Run is due out on February 14th. It will be available from Amazon, itunes, and Barnes and Noble. The paperback will be due out shortly after the ebook. I then plan on releasing Nowhere to Hide, the second novel in the Stephanie Carovella series in August 2013. The third book in the series, will be out 2014 and December 2013 will see book one of the Live and Let Die series.
In one word, how would you best describe yourself?
Focused.

Now that we’re all friends, tell us your most embarrassing moment?
Most embarrassing moment was probably years ago when I went to interview a musician and he suggests drinks so we went out drinking. We got so drunk, we somehow staggered back to his hotel room and passed out on his bed together. I woke up the next morning embarrassed as hell. Got the interview and ended up getting a good friend out of it. We’re still friends ten years later.
Embarrassing with a HEA. That's well done!

Do you have any upcoming signings or author appearances you would like to share?
I have a blog tour between February 1st and February 15th, but other than that nothing at this time.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?
Keep your eyes peeled out for Nowhere to Run, due out on February 14th this year
whoop whoop! I'm cheering for it.

Here is Nowhere To Run blurb:
A dominatrix is murdered; her body displayed in a show of dominance. An actress is found dead beneath the Hollywood sign. There’s a murderer roaming the streets of Los Angeles and he’s having far too much fun to stop.
Stephanie Carovella is a woman of fire and ice. She left her career, her friends and her home town of LA but she couldn’t outrun the demons of her past. When she is lured back by the death of her best friend she enters a world where no one’s safe.
Can Stephanie find her friend’s killer or will she discover that she has nowhere to run?

The Blog Tour is coming, the blog tour is coming!

Banner by Kerri Williams

I woke up this morning at 4:30 am because I had a date with someone amazing. Let me make this clear, she is
A-MA-ZING!
Why 4:30 am? Because we have an enormous pond dividing us and this is what we have to do to get things done.
JRH has been organising my blog tour and might I add, doing one fantastic job. Together we have approached a range of authors, readers and reviewers for a ten day event.
It is going to be smashing! It's going to be epic! It's going to be super-freakin-sick!
So after I came home from work, I got busy on my banner and here we are, announcing to all we are on the way and we are going to be awesome.

There will be more info soon- dates, blogs, comps, giveaways, clowns. WAIT! What, no not clowns. Clowns freak me out. But we do have someone coming to the party and it isn't a lame, freaky-ass clown who will kill me in my sleep.
it's........
BATMAN!

So keep an eye out, raise that Bat signal and we will come'a running.

Happy reading

Author spolight shines on the naughty and delicious, Shelly Pratt

I feel naughty just being this girls friend. LOL.
Introducing, Shelly Pratt- erotic author.

18 years and over

Tell us a little about yourself and how you became a writer.
At 33 I didn’t want to get a lame job that paid pittance … So I got a great job that pays pittance! LOL, seriously, I wanted to do something meaningful for me when my kids started school. Writing was it!
That was probably the most honest and best answer i have ever received. Love it!

Are you an Indie author or traditionally published?
Both. I had my first novel published by a small American publisher and have self-published four other books I have written.

How do your stories come to life, from fiction or fantasy?
A little of both. I like to write a few different genres so I tend to just go with whatever ideas pop into my mind.

Are you a ‘go with the flow’ writer or do you have structure?
Definitely go with the flow! I just start typing and don’t stop until I am done!
It's true. She has swift fingers!

Have you always wanted to be a writer or did you want to be something else?
Maybe subconsciously yes. I have always loved books!

What groups are you affiliated with and how have they helped you through your journey of publication?
Through a mum from school I was introduced to her sister-in-law – author Karlene Blakemore-Mowle. She really was instrumental in getting my started in all things publishing. I am so grateful she shared her writing groups and years of experience with me.
She is my wingman. I love her guts!

How much marketing do you involve yourself in and with the mass consumption of social media, does this play a part in your marketing choice?
To be honest I hate marketing myself. I really would rather have someone do it for me as I hate to put myself out there. Sometimes it seems like a lot of effort for little reward, but it is the best feeling in the world when a satisfied reader connects with you and tells you they loved your book. It makes it all worth it!
Hells yes! I agree 100%

Here’s a random one for you. If you could be one animal, which would it be and why?
I’d probably like to be a bird of some sort – I would love to fly! But being a cute cat or dog would be great too – I’d be sure to get lots of cuddles!

What would you say is your inspiration to write in general or writing  a particular scene?
No one thing in particular. I have snap shots of a scene in my head and then I just go write it. But quite often it is just living everyday life that inspires different stories out of me.

Tell me about how you came up with your title and cover?
I wanted to write an erotic novel and wanted a catchy title that could be used in different ways for each book. Sleeping the Tier just sounded right, and I thought was a bit of a double entendre too.

Do you have any tips for other aspiring writers or authors out there?
A lot! http://www.shellypratt.net/indie-tips.html - They’re all here!
;D

So, I think we’ve gotten to know you a little now. How’s about we step it up a notch. Are you panicking? Lol. Do you have any dirty little secrets or confessions you’d like to share with us- what’s on the blog stays on the blog, right guys. (wink)
Hmmm, I’m bossy and a bit of a control freak. I’m insecure about my weight and constantly think about what I am putting in my mouth. I love ferociously !

Where’s your favourite place to write?
Anywhere comfortable. A nice squishy seat for my ass is just the ticket!

Tell us of your releases- where and when can we buy them?
All of my books are on Amazon at the moment. The second book in the Tiers Chronicles – No More Tiers will be out by the end of Jan 2013

In one word, how would you best describe yourself?
Intense.
Bahahaha 100%

Now that we’re all friends, tell us your most embarrassing moment?
I don’t embarrass easily. Probably giving birth though – there is nothing more embarrassing than that !
Jesus, yeah. Let's not even go there.

Do you have any upcoming signings or author appearances you would like to share?
Not at the moment, but I would like to get something sorted for early this year!

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?
Readers, writers and authors alike will never know how much their support is appreciated when it is given to a newbie. It lifts us up and makes us feel wonderful. All the LIKES we get on our facebook page, all the great reviews and the simple thank yous. Really, they mean the world J
