RWA Conf 2012 Ready

Whoohoo, ding, ding, ding, whoot, whoot and let's through in a yeah baby in for good measure because I am now booked in at the QT Gold Coast for out Romance Writers Australia conference in August.

Premature you may say, but I was too excited to get this ball rolling. I called my roomie and asked if she was the same and the rest is history.

Now I just need to try and stay calm because there's still another 7 months to go. I can't wait to catch up with old friends, find new ones and see the faces of those I have virtually connected with.

Happy New Year!

Okay, so we have partied, and now it's time to look at what we are going to do this new year.

For myself it's detox, diet, more family time and write, write, write.

I'm imagining that's on most of my fellow author and writer friends lists and probably much more but I thought I'd highlight the top ones that came to my mind when hubby jammed a camcorder in my face five minutes before countdown with a cocktail in one hand and a noise maker in the other on the camp grounds of Swans Crossing.

I'm still in the midst of the second book of my suspense series in hopes to pitch in August at our RWA conference- lets here a whoohoo! I can't wait.

It's a little hard to top last year since I had two releases in the span of eight months but I'm trying.

So I want to ask what your goals for the new year are.

Got My Groove Back

How freaking awesome, I've got my groove back!

Thank you to everyone who left encouraging words and tips, they worked.

I have written over 4000 words which may seem small to some but coming out of a funk, man do I appreciate it.

In fact, we should appreciate every damn word that comes from our imagination, i have felt the other side and i didn't not like it so maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

Off to write some more, I need this done for the conference on the Gold Coast to pitch. I figured book one and book two out of three in a series completed should be enough to know the third has a future.

Is this what they call writers block?

People ask me where I find the time to write and I usually reply with something like- 'If you want it bad enough, you find the time.'

It's been over a week now where I haven't written a thing and I can say with all honesty that it feel rotten, as though I'm lost.

Now I know that all I need to do is get typing but life keeps getting in the way, negative thoughts keep getting in the way- I keep getting in the way.

This is the best story I have ever written, the second book in the series of three and yet here I am blogging about not being able to write. Is this what they call writers block?

My friendly, fellow authors are pumping out the words due to the current challenge or just because they can which adds pressure to what I'm already applying to myself.

I know I am not the only author to experience this but when you're in that hole, you do feel like you are the only one. So I'm writing this blog to shout out to those who are and have been through this to tell you you're NOT alone.

Right after this blog my plan is to not check my emails, not facebook or twitter but to read my last page of my MS and let my fingers tap away and hope that letting go of the pressure and life's distractions I will be sucked back into the overwhelming desire to write.

I'm crossing my fingers, ah no I'm not, I need them to write. But I am hoping and you know what it would be really great to see some comments on whether you have or are experiencing this and what you did to overcome it. Or possibly any advice you have would be appreciated.

I'd like to introduce fellow author Kerri Nelson. (good name, huh)

Author Bio:

Kerri Nelson discovered her love of writing at an early age and soon became a columnist for her local newspaper winning the Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year Award for her efforts.

After a fifteen year career in the legal field, Kerri fulfilled her lifelong dream of publication and is now an award winning multi-published author of nearly every genre under the sun (and moon) and also writes young adult fiction under the penname K.G. Summers. A true southern belle, she comes complete with a dashing southern gentleman and three adorable children for whom she often bakes many homemade treats.

Kerri is an active member of Sisters in Crime and Romance Writers of America as well as numerous chapters including Futuristic Fantasy & Paranormal Writers and her Presidency of Celtic Hearts Romance Writers.

Kerri, why do you write romance?

KN: I still believe in romance. I still believe in happily ever after. Not to say that everything in life will go smoothly all the time but I still have the heart of a romantic. And frankly, keeping the faith and believing in love even when times are bad is what makes it all the more worthwhile.
That’s what I like to read about and that’s what I love to write. But...unlike real life...the more conflict in the stories...the better!

I know you write different genres like myself but do you have a certain theme or trademark to your stories?
KN: Yes, most all of my stories will have some type of legal, law enforcement, or suspense element to them. I think I may only have about one or two stories that are not really suspenseful. Otherwise, all my stories fit under my own author tagline of “Romance so good, it should be illegal.”
I love that tag line KN.

How do your stories come to life, from fiction or fantasy?
KN: I like to base my stories on people I have known in my real life. Of course, names have been changed to protect the guilty but I think if you have enough “real life” qualities in each of your characters it will make their fictional characteristics all the more intriguing.
As far as my story creation process is concerned…I typically start with the title. Then the main story idea followed by the characters and then I just write. I don’t do a lot of plotting. Occasionally, I’ll do a very loose outline but mostly I let my characters take me by the hand and lead me where they want to go. I very rarely know the ending before I get there.

Are you a ‘go with the flow’ writer or do you have structure?
KN: I pretty much answered that above but I will add that every time I do attempt to plot the story beforehand, it really restricts my creative flow. I’ll find myself trying to meet those plot goals and plot points and really struggling to get there. Whereas, if I just have the basic idea in mind and then just write freely, it is much more fun. You can really have a blast with paranormal and fantasy because your imagination can go wild!

How do you like your men Kerri, prince’s, cowboys, Joe’s, demons? I know a wounded soul tugs at me- not to mention good looks. (grin)
KN: Gosh, do I have to choose between them? I mean, can’t I have at least one of each? Hmmm…okay…well I guess in real life I love just an average guy who puts his family first above all else. To me, there’s nothing hotter than a good provider and a great protector.

But in my “fantasy” world, I do tend to lean towards the powerful, tortured heroes who fight with a vengeance to overcome their inner demons and win the heart of the damsel in distress.

I can relate KN and when I read, it's the protectors that suck me in. They can be a tortured soul, but give all to protect- yes-sir-ee, that man tugs at my heart strings.

How do you like your men Kerri, prince’s, cowboys, Joe’s, demons? I know a wounded soul tugs at me- not to mention good looks. (grin)

What groups are you affiliated with and how have they helped you through your journey of publication?
KN: I’m a member of Romance Writers of America and various chapters thereof. I tend to gravitate toward several genre specific online chapters versus my local chapters. Although, I’ve tried several of both types. They’ve helped me meet wonderful friends, gain incredible support, and learn valuable less
ons throughout the years.
I’m also a member of Sisters In Crime and have recently completed my first real mystery novel that I’m now submitting for publication. I’m interested in seeing if I can wear a totally different genre hat as well.That organization puts out a brilliant newsletter that really gives you tremendous resources and keeps you up-to-date on the industry.

Here’s a random one for you. If you could be one animal, which would it be and why?
KN: A wolf. Because it is one of the few species that mate for life. If that’s not romantic, I don’t know what is…
I think penguins do as well, but yes you are right- wolves sound better. lol

What would you say is your inspiration to write in general and scene based?
KN: My inspiration to write in general is that I have all these ideas swimming around in my head and if I don’t get them down on paper—I’m afraid that my head will explode. Also, I love to share my imagination with others. If I can make one person laugh, cry, or feel “not so alone” out there then I’ve done my job.
My inspiration to write scene by scene…I like to think of this like making each chapter kind of like an episode of a series television show. Keep the reader wanting to know more. Keep them with the urge to turn the page. That’s how I motivate myself to stay inspired when the light at the end of the book tunnel seems far away.

Do you have any tips for other aspiring writers or authors out there?
KN: I think you should write what you love. Write the stories that you enjoy yourself. Don’t try to force yourself into a certain market or genre. If you don’t love the type of story you are writing, you’ll stall
yourself out before you can make any real progress. You have to love it to stick with it. That’s why I don’t limit myself to one genre. If I have a story that I love but it is way out in left field---ah---what the heck---let’s write it anyway. The journey is what it is all about for me.

So Kerri, I think we’ve gotten to know you a little now. How’s about we step it up a notch. Are you panicking? Lol. Do you have any dirty little secrets or confessions you’d like to share with us- what’s on the blog stays on the blog, right guys. (wink)
KN: Hmm…let me think. Okay, I’ll reveal this…I write under another pen name that no one knows. I only have one book out under this name but it is in no way associated with my Kerri Nelson books nor my K.G. Summers books (YA & Inspirational). It is yet ANOTHER pen name that is top secret. Ha! Ha! :-o
I'm googling it as soon as I get off this blog.

Where’s your favorite place to write?
KN: I’d love to say that it was some special place in my home or in the world but honestly…I’ll write wherever and whenever I can squeeze in a few moments. I have so many children, volunteer duties, business endeavors, and other distractions—I’ll write anytime and anywhere. I’ll also write with any background distractions—I’m immune to them now. If I’m in the zone, I’m in the zone.
I'm guilty of the immune virus, my children are quite testy about it..."MUM, are you listening?
" 'oops, nope'

What did you want to be when you were a child?
KN: I wanted to be a teacher. And I was the only girl my age in our entire neighborhood. The rest were boys and I made them all take classes from me. Complete with homework, gold stars, and the threat of a paddling if they didn’t behave! Yay teach!
The funny part is that they took me at my word. They followed my every command. If only I could get all the men in my life to do the same, eh?

Tell us of your releases- where and when can we buy them?

Now that we’re all friends, tell us your most embarrassing moment?
KN: Geez…I try to forget them. There have been so many. Let’s see…
Once, when I lived in Japan, I bravely went to audition for a live production of the play “A Christmas Carol”. I imagined that it would be fun and easy. I’ve never been so unprepared in my entire life. I arrived to find the likes of a professional audition session and despite my fear—I went through with a live singing and dancing audition—totally unprepared. Needless to say, I didn’t get the part—any part. And I haven’t spoken of it since.

Do you have any upcoming signings or author appearances you would like to share?

What am I doing?

UPDATE:

Well I'm on the down hill 9 days after Nudging Cupid was released and anxiously waiting for my print copies to not only come in the mail but to also see them in the book stores online.

I'm guilty of googling myself everyday since my publisher told me they are available in print and yet to find it- maybe they are waiting for it in the mail too.

So instead of stalking my mail man I decided I better keep tapping the keyboard and get this story finished. I'm quite proud of my work of late and feel I'm getting better as a writer. This ms is the second in a series that I'm working on and hoping to submit to a mainstream publisher next year at the RWA Conference on the Gold Coast- all fingers and toes crossed of course. So I best be off and utilize the rest of this gorgeous day after being outside in the garden this morning and a tad sun-kissed. Sitting on the back patio with my trusty laptop is calling to me.

“Well, I’m not,” Matthew snapped. “You were deceptive this whole time. How long would you have shacked up with him and have him lie to the innocent women who are putting their whole hearts into this show?”

Pow! He had hit her where it hurt. After all, that was exactly what she had been doing. All the dignity and outrage to their deceit was deflated.

“Don’t talk to her like that,” Owen ground out from behind Ivy as he placed his hands upon her shoulders.

Sure he was defending her and showing his support, but Ivy also saw another meaning to his gesture, a significant sign that Ivy was his now and Matthew would do well to remember it or suffer the consequences. Quite honestly, Ivy didn’t mind, considering who it was targeted at and by the sheer contemptuous glare they were getting now. Matthew got the message loud and clear.

“Don’t trust her, mate,” Matthew said with a smirk that Ivy wanted to swat from his face. She could feel the tension building in Owen’s body and she knew she had to resolve this peacefully before it got out of hand.

“I know her, I believe in her, I trust her fully and above all, you will never be my mate.”

Oh God, this is not good. Ivy could feel the tension in Owen’s body even stronger, hear it in his voice and it equally radiated from Matthew’s. She was hoping Gerard or Dan would step up, but she figured they were too caught up in their verbal duel.

“You’re just a toy at the moment, a rebound guy, so don’t get too comfortable. I know her more intimately than you ever will, mate.”

It was then that Owen lost his will to stay cool and stepped out from behind Ivy. “Don’t talk about her like that, you...”

How close is the release now and at this point you should be getting an idea of where Ivy and Owen are heading, so here's a tad more.

“Ivy, what in hell are you doing because it sure as hell isn’t doing your job.”

Ivy glanced around and was thankful she would be going through this embarrassing beheading without an audience to say, “It so did happen. I was there!” when they congregated around the water cooler.

“I know what you’re thinking, Matt, but I can explain.” With her palms up and her eyes pleading, she hoped to dear God he still had a heart somewhere in that broad Armani-clad chest.

“I don’t want to hear your pitiful explanations, sweetheart. I want to know what you’re going to do about the crush this Owen guy has on you. Ever since the day-makers incident, which by the way, I think you would have ducked out of the way yourself and not come up with that…” He reached out to stroke the small abrasion on her forehead that was now a tinge of yellow as it healed. There were two fresh butterfly bandages Owen had applied after they showered earlier in the evening that kept it from further damage.

It seems like an eternity ago, she thought as she slightly pulled away from Matt’s touch and felt the two little plastic adhesives with her own fingers.

“Hellooo.” Matt’s impatience penetrated her mind and she whipped to attention. She could tell by his scornful frown he was not pleased by her lack of interest toward him.

“I’m sorry. What do you mean, crush?” she said coyly.

Matt tilted his head down and one eyebrow rose before he rolled his eyes. “You know what I’m talking about, and you need to put him in his place or I will. We both saw the look he gave both of us today, not to mention the looks he sneaks when he thinks no one’s looking.”

Ooh, I don't like Matt.

“I’m sorry,” Owen said in a rush before he took her face in his palms and her lips with his own. Their kiss was hungry and desperate, their hands ravenous for every touch before she reluctantly pulled away, gasping and searched for his eyes in the dimly lit room.

“Sorry for what?” she said, breathless.

He caressed her cheek and tilted his head to the side. “I could see it upset you. Don’t bother denying it.”

She sunk her head into his chest and sighed. “I didn’t think it would be that hard.”

He wrapped his arms around her and stroked her hair, kissing the top. “You didn’t?”

“No. I thought if I knew you were doing it for me that it would be like watching you...hang out my washing or something.”

He laughed into her hair. “Honey, you’re so naive.”

“No, I’m just delusional.”

“Do you have to actually go on the date with me and her?” he asked hushed.

“No, but I’ll be monitoring it from my computer and communicating with the crew because I can’t be at all the dates at the same time. I thought it would be better if I stayed and did it this way, but I’m having second thoughts.”

“Don’t.” He was adamant.

She looked up as he pulled his chin in so he could look into her eyes.

“Why?” She was almost too afraid to ask.

“Because I know I won’t be able to go through with it if you’re there.”

“Remember, it’s not really a date.” She could see he was having trouble deceiving the women and tried to reassure him.

“That’s the problem, Ivy. I’m not being honest and I came here...”

Ivy couldn’t believe the audacity of the man. “How would you know if I wanted to see you again outside of the mansion?”

“I didn’t say you did. I said I knew I was coming back. I was hoping you would want to see me again outside of the mansion, and…” He tilted his head to her lap and smiled widely. “…I can see I was right.”

She looked from his cheeky eyes and muscle-melting broad smile to the screen filled with his empty bed. Her face grew molten hot. She could feel the blood rushing fast, the adrenaline still high from the shock and stammered for an answer. “I...I think you have misunderstood.”

He scoffed before closing the lid of her laptop and taking it from her and placing it on the coffee table. “We need to be honest.”

“We need to stop this,” she rebuked quickly, wishing she had something in her hands to busy herself with.

“We couldn’t even if we tried and if you’re honest, you would realize you don’t want to.”

His aqua-blue eyes set upon hers and inch by inch their bodies drew together like a strengthening magnet until their lips met in a lasting soft kiss.

Well here goes.

She shook her head and he could see she was trying not to laugh as she continued, “There needs to be a favorite and I think it will be you. I had a feeling it would be you when I studied your profile, but I’m absolutely sure now that we have shared a...err, spent time together. I think if you came into that room as yourself it will change how they all think this game was going to be played. I think your contenders are going to feel a little threatened, but that makes the show more interesting.”

Interesting. “So let me get this straight.” He felt torn between her obvious attraction to him and her willingness to use him to boost her ratings.

She nodded.

“You think I’m attractive?” He waited cheekily for her to confirm, hoping she would remain as candid as she had started.

“Yes.”

Bingo. He flashed his 250-watt smile. “You believe I am more attractive than any man here?”

She laughed lightly as he waited once again for confirmation. “Yes, I said that.”

“So much so, every woman here will want me.” This is fun.

This time she couldn’t help but wholeheartedly laugh before she could answer and the sound made him warm.

“Yes.”

He took the small space that stood between them until he was a mere breath away. “Does that mean you want me?”

Ivy hadn’t a chance to open her eyes before she was twisted around midair and landed on something unyielding and warm, cushioning her from the onslaught of the harsh paved ground of the estate’s driveway. She was vaguely aware of the sound of the set’s floodlight and its steel frame hitting the ground with a loud clang, the explosion of the bulbs, the tinkle of glass scattering across the pavement and the screams from the crew around her. They were all muffled by the sound of heavy breathing—and it wasn’t hers.

So the day has arrived where I step out into the world and talk about my writing career in public- such as it is thus far.

I will be at Laurieton Library on Saturday the 24th of September 10am.

That time of the year

Yes, it's that time of the year again where a great load Australian romance writers all congregate in one building, well not me this year.

But don't shed a tear just yet because Karly Lane (Blakemore-Mowle) and myself decided to have our very own mini-conference at Opal Cove Resort in the beautiful and warm Coffs Harbour.

It will be Tim Tams, good wine, maybe some cheap wine (grin), brainstorming, fantastic coffee, writing, yummy food like more Tim Tams- my hips are getting wider just mentioning them, and the best yet... AWESOME company.

So when we get back we will make sure there is an official update as I will be awaiting those who have taken flight to the chilly Melbourne. Brrrr.

Have Fun and good luck to all those pitching and get well all of those who have taken ill last minute and had to cancel their trip.

Writing Goals

Well the end has come and it's time for the final weigh in so-to-speak

I reached my editing goal and beyond of the 10,000 but only 19,205 in the writing goal.

But you know what, I'm not ashamed, no-sir-ee. In fact I am damn proud of what I have done.

There's nothing that I have written that I need to delete and it was a great push in my new ms and current work.

I want to say a massive big fat thank you to Julia for all her hard work through sickness and health (sounds like wedding vows, eh)

She did a fantastic job and deserves a massive big hug.

To all the guys spurring each other on, and did or did not reach there goals, you deserve a very large glass of bubbly.

Universal truths

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Google Maps really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighbourhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page document that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.

15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

20. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" option.

21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

22. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

25. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent an arse from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

28. Is it just me or do high school kids get dumber & dumber every year?

29. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

31. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

32. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their mobile phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my last 5 cents everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

50k in 30 Days

It's time again- The 50K in 30Day Challenge has come upon us and our fingers are like hummingbirds on crack as they speed across the keyboard.

If any of you don't know what this is about I'll give you a very brief description.

It's where we writers have thirty days to meet the goal of word count we set for ourselves. I personally have chosen the whole shebang because I'm a glutton for punishment. Some have set a goal for ten thousand and so on. We then submit our numbers to the administrator and it is on display for everyone to see. Not unlike weight watches I suppose. If you are naughty you will be caught. LOL.

So, since I wrote TAKING BACK HIS WIDOW during this challenge two years ago I thought why not boost my ms.

I wish my fellow challengers luck and I will keep my blog updated with my count.

Weight watches eat this!

Worth the squeeze

We all wish for it... more hours in a day.

Ooh, that and the energy to survive and function through them.

People often ask how I find the time to write in a day, well the answer is that I squeeze the life out of it. (:

But I heard once that you must fill your life with things worth squeezing.

Does this make sense or am I tired and rambling?

No, I think it is true all the way.

I love being active in my kids life and my husbands interests, I love interacting with the extended family and sharing in our roller-coaster lives.

I love writing. I love reading and TV. I love my house even though it's like 60 odd years old and ALWAYS in need of something.

I love my pets and my friends.

I love ... well you can guess what that one is.

I love my food.

Did I say I love writing. lol

Oh my gosh, see why I'm tired- I LOVE so much that there is a lot to squeeze in a day.

But I go to bed happy and know that I have lived doing what I love.

The question now is....

Is your life filled with things worth the squeeze?

The Romance Review just posted the official review of TAKING BACK HIS WIDOW and I couldn't be happier.

It received a five star rating and encouraged readers to dive into the journey of Dean and Liv.

Instead of merely posting the link I'm pasting it for you to read but the links will be at the bottom if you want to check it out in all its glory. lol. Can't you just tell proud I am.

Perfection. TAKING BACK HIS WIDOW is a beautifully written treasure that left me warm inside, hoping I'd never forget the exquisiteness of the journey. Contemporary romance readers, lovers of stories with passion and heart, you really must check this gem out.

What an absolute gift this story was. Thank you so much to Kerri Williams for sharing this tale of lost love found. As anyone with some years behind them can testify, sometimes we aren't prepared to handle life's greatest joys when we are younger, but with age comes the maturity to appreciate what's important in a way you couldn't in your youth.

At 19, Liv and Dean knew what they wanted out of life. They had a plan and it started with a wedding, then would come their years at the university followed by a career as investigative reporters. It was all mapped out.

Until Liv learned she was pregnant.

Eleven years later, Dean is on assignment in a small coastal town in Australia when he hears a familiar haunting voice over the radio. Dashing to the station, his hopes and fears are confirmed as he watches the woman who he'd planned to spend his life with exit the building.

Now Liv must confess that she never ran off and had an abortion as her note implied. Dean is the father of Luke, her ten year old son. Not only that but Liv married the local town hero two short months after fleeing Dean and allowed that man to raise Luke as his own son until he died at sea. She did it for Dean. No. She did it for both of them. Liv knew Dean would join the family company and forgo his dream of traveling the globe and reporting from some of the most dangerous places on the planet. He was the kind of man who would put his family first and his dreams aside.

Now, eleven years later, he is going to find out and the three of them are going to have to make a new plan for the future.

I loved how the son's (Luke) point of view and confusion were so well represented in the story. It just added a whole new dimension that created a family. All the choices seemed real, the emotions so palatable and the energy so tangible. Ms. Williams's writing voice brought to life a coastal community, raging storms, and three people struggling to define what their family is going to be. The way the whole community kept an eye on Dean, making sure Liv wanted him around and making sure he was treating her with respect was charming. All that attention to creating a world I could feel as Liv, Dean and Luke got to know each other added so much to the experience.

The passion is really evident. These two never fell out of love. In fact, discovering that Liv did what she did out of love, so that he could live his dream just made everything that much more intense. Yes, there's anger and hurt feelings and most definitely feelings of betrayal, but under it all is Liv's love for Luke and Dean and Dean's love for Luke and Liv. And eleven years of wanting each other. Missing each other.

When I got to the end, I was ready to move to Australia and enjoy the simple coastal life Liv had built for herself. This really was a beautiful journey. It had highs and lows, just like all of our families' experience. We should be so blessed to know how to cherish the love we have been given as these two learn.

This is a feel good tale of triumph and reunion. The characters seemed real, the writing left goose bumps on my arms, and time just seemed to slip away as I enjoyed Liv and Dean's family reunion. This is definitely one of my Top Picks to check out. Enjoy!

Interview With Karly Blakemore-Mowle / Karly Lane

I’d like to welcome my conference roomie, my bud, Karly Lane- otherwise known as Karly Blakemore-Mowle.

Karly, let’s start off with why you write romance?

I guess because romance can go with pretty much anything! I love a good suspense or action packed NCIS episode as much as the next person, but you throw a dash of romance into any of those genres and you've got something great! And I'm a sucker for a happy ever after. OMG that’s my motto. I can’t read anything unless it has a happy ever after.

Okay, so I know you write different genres like myself but do you have a certain theme or trademark to your stories?

Small towns and the past often find their way into my books. I have a lot of returning to the place where it all began, kind of story lines. I believe Bob Mayer said something like most books will end where they start.

And how do your stories come to life from fiction or fantasy?

(As in where do they come from?)

I usually get an idea for a scene, then I have to work out where the scene came from, who the people are, what they do next, what happened before. Sometimes I get a whole theme and then I have to sit down and jot down everything before I forget! Sometimes inspiration comes from an unhappy conclusion to a show or a movie or something on the news will spark an idea about a story, or the question what if this had happened instead? Me too.

Are you a ‘go with the flow’ writer or do you have structure?

I've tried so many kinds of techniques and honestly, if I read something that tells me it's going to cure all my plotting woes-I'm there, but I usually find myself packing it all away and returning to winging it. I know it makes more sense to have a plan and to know where you're going, but I think I'm just too impatient by nature to sit and do all the plotting before hand. I wish I could be more methodical, but I find it very difficult to remain creative once it's all mapped out in front of me. I have become a lot more organized than I was in the beginning, but I think I'll always be a jump in head first and worry about the problems later, kind of writer. LOL. That is so you.

How do you like your men Karly, prince’s, cowboys, Joe’s? I know a little arrogance and a lot of charm goes a long way for me- not to mention good looks. (grin)

Arrogance, not so much. But a wounded soul with a hidden soft spot is probably my man of choice. Oh I’m a sucker for the tortured soul. Give me Damon Salvatore any day. Under the arrogance and nonchalance smile is a wounded heart that only wants to be loved.

What groups are you affiliated with and how have they helped you through your journey of publication?

I know without the Romance Writers of Australia I wouldn't be where I am today. It was after I joined them, that my writing took off. The networking and support you get through the RWA is priceless.

I also have a local writers group, 4 Points Author Network, which never ceases to blow my mind whenever I think about them! We are so lucky to have the wealth of experience and talent in such a small group. Our members are spread out over such a huge area and travel up to two hours each way just to attend meetings.

I think rural communities are both blessed and cursed by the limited facilities we are able to utilize. Cursed, because it's really hard to get to events and courses that are vital for writers to hone their craft, and blessed because we know how hard it is to get support and quality time with our peers and so members tend to dedicate themselves and appreciate the things we get a lot more. Diddo on RWA, I’d still be dreaming of publication if I hadn’t joined them. As for 4 Points, they are awesome!

Here’s a random one for you, Karly. If you could be one animal, which would it be and why?

A cat. No two ways about it. I'm so there with the cat attitude and prima-donna airs and graces…okay, not at the moment, in this life, but if I were a cat, with an eccentric, rich old lady who adored me and we lived in a fancy apartment, and she bought me a diamond studded collar…is it just me or is this question going somewhere way too weird??? Kerri, what on earth were you on, when you thought of that one?! I said it was random and apparently it’s supposed to tell a lot about a person. LOL.

Now I know you don’t use the word muse but what would you say is your inspiration to write in general and is it scene based?

Having a voice talking to me inside my head does tend to freak me out a little bit! I tend to see my scenes like a movie, the way the characters talk, their expressions, body language and what they say. I also often ask myself what would I do? How would I react in that situation? (if it's something scary, I would usually say RUN! so I have to put on my writers cap and toughen up a bit in those situations!) My husband say’s ‘have a cup of concrete and toughen up Karl’s.’ (Tongue in cheek)

Do you have any tips for other aspiring writers or authors out there?

You've heard it all before- don't give up!

I know, I can hear you saying that's what everyone says! I also know I used to roll my eyes when I read that too, but it's true. It's not easy and it sure as hell isn't always fair-it's an industry that's based on being in the right place, with the right voice and the right editor reading your work on the right day…it's certainly not for the faint of heart. Ooh, I’m a big believer in that. Preach it sister!

So Karly, I think we’ve gotten to know you a little now. How’s about we step it up a notch. Are you panicking? YES! Lol. Do you have any dirty little secrets or confessions you’d like to share with us- what’s on the blog stays on the blog, right guys. (wink)

Umm, not really…actually being a writer you'd think I'd be able to invent something really cool to say here wouldn't you! Ah, yes. Hehe I have been known to move the books of authors I know in front of other books in shops when I am browsing the book department…but we all do that don't we? Or is that just me? I just did it with Fiona Palmer's new release at work. Come on we have to show our support. Ssh, don’t tell my boss,

Where’s your favourite place to write?

I've made a cosy little space to write, I like to call it 'central command' it's in the lounge room, right in the centre of the house, so I can see in all directions—yes kids, I really do have eyes in the back of my head! It may not be peaceful and serene most of the time, but it allows me to write more than I ever would in any other part of the house. Me too, it’s called my lap. (yes I still have one) haha.

Tell us of your releases- where and when can we buy them?

North Star will be available nationally at all good book stores and department stores or online through Allen & Unwin.

Now that we’re all friends, tell us your most embarrassing moment? Way to lull someone into a false sense of security Kez!...well this one time at band camp….

I actually had an embarrassing moment with my first boss. I was petrified of making an idiot of myself around him. So one day when he perched on the corner of the desk opposite mine and started chatting, I naturally answered him, too shy to actually look him in the eye of course!…the conversation went something like this;

Boss; How are you?

ME: Good thanks

Boss: How was your weekend?

Me: prattling on with whatever incredibly interesting thing I would done at 17!

Boss: Did you remember to pick up the dog from the vet?

Me: ?????????? (first inkling something was NOT right)… then looks up to see the boss talking to HIS WIFE on the phone….. not one of my finer moments! Nothing like having a rambling one sided conversation in front of the boss…. Bwahaha, that’s just too funny.

Do you have any upcoming signings or author appearances you would like to share?

I'm going to be at the ARRA conference in March at Bondi, with a special early release of North Star, which I can't wait for. Wish I was there but I’ll get a copy signed anyway because I’m the bestest roomie.

She tried to say his name.

The words were there—Dean Stone. Only her throat restricted the sound.

“I knew it was you,” he said.

She wasn’t sure, but she thought she heard a hint of triumph or possibly accusation in his tone.

“It’s been a long time, Livinia.”

“Dean.” It came out in a whisper and more like a question than a statement. After all this time, why is he here?

There was something tugging at her mind, something important she knew she should be more worried about than anything else, but her mind wouldn’t cooperate.

Before she could decipher what was so important, Dean’s voice invaded the fog.

“Is that all you have to say to me?”

The dark, challenging look in his eyes made the blood simmer within her veins. Even in the dim light of the station’s security lights, she found herself glued to his vivid brown eyes.

Coincidences- Should we use them?

It's been a question asked of late and had me thinking- can we use coincidences in our stories without it becoming weak and unrealistic?

I thought seriously about it before I gave them my answer and I thought through my own ms which had one that led my hero to his heroine after eleven years. Then I thought through how I met my husband and guess what- it was one long string of coincidences.

Now I'm not saying that you should use coincidences all the way through your ms; this I believe would make it weak. But I do think that they are a part of life and even the unbelievable ones are good ones.

So I want you to think about how you met your hubby and tell me- was it a coincidence that brought you together?

You can answer through face book or here, I think it will be interesting to see how many of us have a simple coincidence to thank for how we met the love of our lives.

First Interview In Romance Writers Australia.

In our last critique group meeting an interesting topic had come up- when to use italic for POV. Some of us thought that italics shouldn't be needed as the reader knows we are in hero's/heroines POV, but some of us believe when talking to ones self either sarcastically or whatever, should be in italics.

Here's an example:

"What else did he say?"

Apart from the where abouts of Jimmy Hoffa's body. She sighed, "Nothing. He left after that."

So, using this example I would love to know your opinion and I'll take the consensus to the next meeting.

Oh my gosh, what a whirl wind of excitement.

There is a lot of work to be done now but it's all worth it.

The Benefits Of Hanging In There!

You know that poster you see blue-tacked to the wall of someones home office, the one with a cute little kitty hanging from the branch of a tree and the words sprawled across the top- HANG IN THERE!

Well, I have to say that those words ring true to me right now.

I have hung in there even when I had moments when I thought I was just dreaming and it has paid out.....

I have been offered a contract from Eternal Press!

Yay. This is where the streamers come flying and the confetti bombs go off.

I was going to wait until the contract was actually signed but I decided I couldn't hold it in any longer. It has been a full three days of adrenaline and filling out the important forms that they have requested and I thought I needed to share the good news with you, okay maybe a little bragging, but I deserve to brag for a moment don't I?

Thank you to everyone who has believed in me.

Anyway, I have so much to do.

I'll fill you in with the progress, by for now.

The excitement Of A Finished WIP

I just finished my latest WIP- so I guess I can now call it a manuscript, or maybe that's a little premature since I have endless amount of editing to do, but the way I feel right now, it won't take me very long; I hope.

I am so excited and who wouldn't be?

whether it be an ms of 12000 words or one of 120 000 words, the pride and excitement is still the same and just as worthy.

So this blog is in tribute to all those writers who have the courage to submit their work with hope in their hearts that this time you will get the blessed contract, all the while trying to swat away the fear of rejection like it was annoying fly.

Then weeks, and in most cases, months go by and you find an envelope that looks unlike any letter you normally receive; there is no Telstra logo in the upper corner, there's no beautiful penmanship scrawled across from your nan and your heart begins to flutter almost like the time you saw your love walking toward you on the street after you been apart from him/her for days.

You take your letter inside and fight the urge to rip it apart in fear that you wont like what you will find, that someone thinks your writing unfortunately is not right for them.

You take it inside and sit down and take a large steadying breath and pry open the pressing envelope.

Inside you find the standard letter head (and forgive me if you are submitting by email, the process of opening an email is quite the same, i assure you) and it begins with a compliment and then......

Well, this next bit differs for all. But the point I am trying to make is that we take it as gracefully as possible and certainly don't then write or email to the editor whose job it is to sort through the thousands of submissions every day and tell them they are morons.

Last week, it had came to my attention that one such man, if we wish to compliment him with this title had done such a thing.

How dare he!

I have received two email rejection for various of manuscripts as well as letters and took there advice; after all, who would know more than someone who does this every day.,

Now I'm not in anyway saying that just because one editor doesn't like your work that you should chuck it all in. Of course not. What I am saying is that you take the rejection with GRACE.

I am currently holding my hopes high with an ms I have sent to Eternal Press for submission, and I can hear some of you say that I shouldn't announce it when you could get rejected, but you know what? I am proud I am putting myself out there and I will certainly take the r..r..rejection (touch wood) with as much grace as I can muster and I will submit again.

Let us rejoice in our journey and have faith that one day we will find the right editor for us and share when we feel disappointed, it is nothing to be ashamed of and we all go through it and when we do, unlike the un-namable man previously mentioned, we will do it with professionalism and move on.

I'll let you all know my progress and wish all my fellow writer good luck and congratulations on striving for the dream!

Inspiration...

What is your your inspiration?

I realized as I've looked over some of our family shots that I have used some of my favourites for scenes in my manuscripts.

whether it be snorkeling with my husband through the rocks of Diamond Head beach or our local waterfall/lagoon that I wish was more private than it is, but lets keep this PG shall we.- pic above-

Either way, it makes me wonder how much of our life affects our writing. I know that both of the examples I have given are in mine, so i want you to have a think about it and let me know how much it affects yours.

Huge Month.

So much has happened in the month since I posted last, so I will start with the biggest news first.
I received my rejection letter from HQN. A little disappointed, yes. but it came with positive feedback and I realised even though they didn't like it doesn't mean it isn't good and what matters the most to me is that I believe in it.
I plan to send it some where else.
Going against the grain is hard, hard, hard. I had my crit partner read over my work in progress and she said and I quote, 'I know you can do better' and 'I like your other writing better.' Coming from a published author I had another think about it.
So the conclusion was, stay with my true voice! So now I have a mountain of work to do with that.
Does it ever end?
And thirdly, I just read 'Beautiful Malice' by Rebecca James after all we must support our Australian writers; romance or not and 1.4 million dollar contract later or not.
A psychological thriller and a good read.
i only wish i could get that contract, no scratch that, any contract. haha.
And with that my fellow writers and readers, i must go and do some more work.

Going Against The Grain...

Do you know which style of writing is for you?
I have discovered which one is easiest for me, but get this... I have decided to challenge myself and have gone against the grain.
I find it easier to write with the plot/characters having a past.
You have bitterness, contempt, lust the works. What a recipe.
Then you have what I'm attempting- first chance meetings, love at first sight but there's external and internal conflicts.
But ahah, these things have to believable and fundamentally hot or romantic or dangerous to get the reader to be absorbed.
Well this is my belief, I'm sure I'm not giving it all justice, but you do get my drift.
So this all being said, I'm finding it a little slower to write but love what I have achieved.
I hope to have it ready for this years conf at Syd.
My question for you all today is...
WHICH RECIPE DO YOU FIND EASIER AND ARE YOU READY TO CHALLENGE YOURSELVES. Hmmm.

Jungle of despair...

I have been lost in the jungle of despair as I have hit the saggy middle and can not, despite all I do, to find my way out.
while awaiting response from HQN from my ms request, I have still been trying to finish my latest work to no avail.
We all dread this moment in our career and I would dare say that alot of us has experienced it and would feel for where I am at the moment.
It feels like months of bashing my head against a brick wall and only getting concussion for my efforts.
So after the last two months and some helpful words from a writing Friend, I have cut the jungle down to make a path and for a while I am going to put the damn thing aside.
so the exciting part is, I am back and i am stating a new dream, a new world within my imagination and I'm putting it to paper/computer.
I'm trying not to feel too despondent and pushing on.
What do you think?

Working Hard

I know, I know. I am naughty.
Sorry I haven't been blogging lately, especially after my promise of doing so, but I have been busy writing, working and living.
Damn work is such an inconvenience on my life. lol.
So here' my update- I am still waiting to here from MB but I understand it will be a while before I do because everyone dreams of writing for them therefor there are a lot of submissions for them to go through; despite what I drill into my husband, the world does not revolve around me. boohoo.
So instead I am working on my other ms that still requires alot of tweaking and the last three chaps. I have hit a snag where i have the internal conflict bringing them together and holding them apart. They want a future together but she wont fully commit because her 'secret' will destroy them.
Then the external conflict brings them together but he forgave her too quickly.
Dang! I don't know, like I said, it needs tweaking.
So now you know where I have been. I have not dropped off the face of the planet or won lottery or blew away in the last two dust storms.
I am here trudging away, bleeding from my finger tips and going bald. haha.
I hope you will all forgive me and I will try better from now on.

RWA Conference update

Well, we're back. It was fantastic and I wish to thank the organisers and speakers.
Annie West and Trish Morey delivered a wealth of information.
I'm sorry my e-pals didn't recognise me with my dark hair, I will get to putting up an up to date picture; the dark hair through you all off.
So, here's an update on the e-pitch with HQN UK. Bless them, I received an email of request of a partial.
How very exciting!
They had already gave me positive feedback for the first chapter but have request another two.
I know, I know. Don't get too excited, you say. But how could I not?
To get this far is a dream.
Any way, this was just a quick update. I have heaps of work to do and a partial to send with my fingers crossed.
Oh, and good luck to those ho pitched at the conf and was asked to submit a partial also.

I Finished It!

I finished Make That Man Mine about an hour ago and loved it.
I'm not familiar with erotica reads but I truly enjoyed this.
New. Fresh. And it worked for me.
I laughed, giggled like a school girl and wanted to attempt my come-hither eyes on DH; poor man. lol
I was totally engrossed in her imagination of the New Zealand mythology, it was refreshing.
Loved the immediate chemistry between them and especially loved that she was presented like a real woman. A woman with curves-voluptuous all over; well that's how I describe myself. hehe.
All in all, I'm going to have to buy more of Shell's work.
Thanks sweety for the entertaining day.

Well, you've probably heard I won a copy of Shell's new book: Make That Man Mine, through Christina Phillips' blog.

Well I just received it and I'll let you all know how I went; I'm sure it'll be fantabulous of course.

I read her excerpt; which you can too at the end of her interview by Christina- link on the side of my blog page, and I ginned the whole time.

Her characters have great chemistry and humour; I loved it.

I've been surfing the blogs today and was directed to Ally Blake's Writing Tips.
I wanted to share the article with everyone who dreams of being published by HQN because it's extremely helpful.
I remember trying to breakdown my ms to figure which line it would fit into and i had gotten it wrong, which meant i waisted my time and resources and the editors of HQN.

I'm soooo excited because I just sent my pitch and first chapter last night and can't wait to get the feedback.

I have to thank Sandie and Diane for the 50k in 30day challenge last year. This was the push off for this ms, it's unfortunate I couldn't sign up again this year, but I had loads to do.

I wish everyone luck for this years challenge, you'll love it.

I can't wait to meet so many of you finally at the bris conf; heck, I can't believe I'm going! Yah!!!!

Anyway, I'm totally motivated at the moment and decided to revamp my first ms.

Yay! I have booked my flight, which FYI, was quite expensive. But after weighing up the options, it was the lesser of two evils.
I have booked my room and paid for my conference booking- I'm sending it tomorrow.
So, it's set.
I have been sooooo busy with my promotion and trying to finish this ms so I can pitch.
That being said, I'm off for now but before I go I want to know who is going.

To Be, Or Not To Be...

No, I'm not quoting Shakespeare. I'm talking about conference time.
Uh-huh, that's right people. It's fast approaching and DH said I can go.
What's the catch I hear You ask.
All I need to do is find the moola to go, in which, I believe is possible.
The early bird price is until may, but I think I can do it.
I'm sooo excited and yet sooo very nervous.
Arabian Nights is the theme this year, yikes. But I know Suz will look fab though.
I've been kick'n A in my writing and touch wood, I'm hoping I will have it done by Conference time.
Now all that being said, in case something goes bad at my end and I cant go, is there going to be a Claytons this year?
I hope so, it was helpful and I loved 'meeting' other writers and it was helpful.
While I'm on the subject of helpful, I love listening to music.
Different types give me inspiration. Depending on what scene I'm writing is what music I listen to, same goes for my plotting.
What do you do? Does music effect you in the same way?
I tried to upload one of my favourite pieces but I couldn't. I will however give you a link on the side to his music. I love him. You may also recognise him from Harry Potter and Twilight saga as an actor. He's a gifted fella, isn't he.

You say, 'no, not Kerri.' But alas, yes me. for two weeks i have neglected my beloved ms, and not even for being a good wife and mother.
In fact, someone could have called DOCS this week. but let me start from the beginning- intrigued aren't you.
So, week one i was still a slave to facebook. But don't worry, there's no need for a an intervention, i now have control. Also facebook can't keep you occupied every spare moment, but the new addiction I has found took over my life in week two.
My house is a pig pen that I'm trying to now sort out, washing has mounted up and the ironing is scary, so what phenomenon took over me for seven days....
TWILIGHT saga by Stephanie Meyer.
yes i read the whole series in seven days, no scratch that. If i had a whole seven days to read it would have been done in two. Instead they were read in every spare minute/second of my time. i would stay up late even though i had an interview with my boss the next morning. i would be running late just to get in a couple of pages in. i would get to work ten minutes earlier to sit in my car instead of socialising in the lunch room with my work pals.
I was addicted to life of Bella and Edward.
Now if any of you are aware of this story and think its just for the teenagers- you are dearly wrong. This saga is for any true romantic.
yes, Bella is only seventeen when this all starts, as is Edward, but she is an old soul and he has been around since the war.
Oh their love is intense and i fell for the gentleman-Edward.
I have never read a paranormal, but if this is what it would be like well they are my new fav.

If you haven't read Twilight, do so. you are missing out on something special.
I only just finished the last one a couple of hours ago and I feel a little lost.
My kids and hubby look the same, I have folded my washing and tidied my house to a point i could live with until tomorrow, and i can finally get to my ms.
But i say these things with a heavy heart, i miss those characters and want more.
I don't think she will write a continuance but i wish she would.
Stephanie Meyer is a gifted writer, simple enough for the youthful to read and yet brilliantly imaginative and captivating.
10 out of 10. READ IT! i haven't even seen the movie yet.

Oh, gosh. Where do I start?

Well let's start with my day at work yesterday. I was so excited when three boxes of M&B books came in. FYI- I work at Target, and for those who don't know, Target carry a great range of M&B books. Anyway, as I was saying, the three boxes contained next months books and within a couple of hours a woman came in with a list. No, just back up a little.

first she came and saw me and asked if she could get some help with some books. I then asked her, 'what kind are you after?' fully expecting her to ask about the new Twilight series that seem to be the bomb at the moment.

Has anyone read these yet? I admit, I have bought all of them because ratings said they are suppose to be the next Harry Potter.

Anyhow, back to our lady customer- she then went quiet and said ' mills & boon' ( like it was a dirty word that she would be scorned for.

How disheartening, I felt like saying, 'Hey, there's nothing wrong with them!' But I'd probably get fired.

So I then asked her, 'what one are you after?' She then replied, and this is the exciting part- 'I have a list.'

HUH, I could have fallen over, this woman who couldn't even mention the publisher without being embarrassed had a list.

But it doesn't stop there, when I took the list from her I think I may have had a micro-faint, you know, like a micro-sleep. There were 19 titles on this list of hers.

19! Uh-huh, you read right, 19. Just in case you still can't believe what your reading and think I'm a dummy and numerous typo's- NINETEEN!

So, off I went into the reserve sifting through the boxes for the titles she couldn't wait to hit the shelves.

If anyone ever had doubts to whether there was a good turn over in the M&B books, I'll tell you now. At work we sell plenty, be proud to be a reader and stop sitting in the closet thinking your the only one- YOU ARE AMONG FRIENDS. lol

Maybe they need to place a sign like that above it. hehe

More news- I'm back and writing again. I took some great advice and tried not to stress about it. I read a M&B- I'm a proud reader! it was an old but still a goodie in the ever growing collection.

I don't know why but I can't part with my books, I need a room just for them. hehe

I'm continuing on with the wp from 50k in 30 days because I still feel it's my best so far, it needs quite a bit of tweaking but what doesn't.

I was feeling quite depressed there for a while, I couldn't even look at the blogs let alone manage mine.

I miss you all and cant wait to enjoy the new year.

Oh, I love you guy's. You know just what to say to make me feel good.
I feel tired but at the same time I'm so glad to help support my family financially.
Boohoo's for the hol's though, as I have watched DH take the kids off surfing the other day as i went off to work. Then today he took them and all our new camping gear out to Swans Crossing for a week.
I'm going out for a couple of nights hear and there but it's not the same.
But, you need to look at the glass half full, right now I have a house (dirty house) to myself. No kids or hubby! OMG!!!!
Tonight I'm internet banking, catching up on my blog and getting some much need house work done, but tomorrow night, I will take your advice and either catch up on reading or a book.
Well, I'm heading off feeling much better. Thank you guys!
If I don't catch up before then, have a fantabulous new year.

Diet v's Writing.

Trying to juggle writing with work, children-(including DH), pets and house duties is like trying to diet.
everyday i say, it's okay. you can start afresh tomorrow, and before you know it your ms is practically untouched or you've gained 20kg's.
I'm so depressed and tired. I haven't found my balance since i started in early November.
which also brings me to the fact i have neglected my friend- hi Suz.
so, i used to write in the early hours when my kids were home, then i had anytime when they went to school, now it's like i have no time at all. if I'm not working or doing the mother/wife things, i just want to sleep.
BOOHOO! my DH says, 'have a cup of concrete.... and toughen up'. Or you'll love this one, 'want a tissue princess'
huh, where is the sympathy?
i would love to hear how you busy writers cope with the juggle of life that takes us from our Passion.

Mid North Coast Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride

Wow! What a day it was. Last Saturday We attended the Mid North Coasts first Pink Ribbon Charity Ride and raised $8000.00 dollars clear. How Fan-bleepin-tastic is that.
Approx 200 motorcycles in pink made the trip from Port Maquarie to Harrington all along the coast road. My DH and Brother and wife made it into the papers, and yes, the boys were in pink. It was soooooo great. I cant wait until next years ride.
The next charity run is the Christmas run for the salvation army where more than 300 bikes decorated in Xmas gear ride from Laurieton through Waughope to Port Macquarie deliver presents and for the needy children, if you can make it, it's worth it.
Some of the fun is simply going through the towns all deco'd up beeping and waving to the kids, their smiles are so large, they're so excited it makes your heat so full. Gosh, I cant explain it- a writer lost for words. hehe.
Speaking of which, I have been a wee bit lazy and should get back to it.

Hectic!

Hectic is what my son describes as anything cool, well I can assure you when I say my life at the moment is sooooooo very hectic, I am surely not referring to it as cool.

I just started my new part time job, which means this is now no# 2 as things of late have been increasingly expensive. I'm soooooo tired and cripplingly sore all over, Boohoo for me.

DH says welcome to the real world and giggles considering my no#1 p/t job is very easy and sometimes fun and in the meantime I write, participate in school activities, have movie days with one of my best friends- can you see why he said this, I can. He'll ask me, 'what are you doing today?" I say, 'It's Tuesday, honey. It's movie day."

What a life, huh.

Although it will take me a little to get used to this new lifestyle of mine, I still intend to see Suz for inspiration, a good o'l chat and some wip swapping. I still WILL write- that one's a must and hopefully I can balance the rest out so I can have it all. Heheh.

A great friend hooked me up, and I do mean hooked.
what are you on about, I hear you ask. Well, this web site is a vocabulary builder; and don't we all need some of that. so how it works is that it gives you a word with multiple choice answers and if you get the question right they donate rice to the third world needy. The key is, the more you learn and get right the more rice it builds in the bowl.
I hot hooked on it so be careful!! lol
Now all this being said, this is not where i have been for the last few weeks. I have been a little AWOL, naughty me, I know. But, I'm inspired again and ready to hit the keys of my trusty LP and get the romantic words flowing, hey I have some knew learnt vocab words to use. hehe
Okay, truth also be told, after some more research and the excellent help from Annie West, I had to tweak a little with my MS, but with this new knowledge I have realized where i went wrong all this time and it feels great to be on the right track.

Claytons Conference

A must do for all romance writers!
Before you go to the major confrences I think you should seriously consider doing this online Claytons Conference first.
You get to know other aspiring authors who have that problems you do and others who can help you with them.
There was great workshops, where personally I got a lot out of.
No wonder I have been published, I had neon signs flashing in my mind that 'This is the stuff to get me my dream!'
I actually won a review of my first chapter from Annie West for the best pitch on day one.
Yes, you read right- The Annie West!
Whoo hoo!!!
I can not tell you enough how much this conference has brought me out of my shell and others too I noticed.
It was more personal, even with the Authors who donated their time for chats and workshops. I don't think you would be able to be that personal at a major face to face conference.
Now I'm not beating them down, I know they offer a lot Claytons cant, ie, the the pitch to publishers and editors etc. But here I was able to practice them and see the differences with mine to others.
Oh, I could go on and on but this is just a quick update.
I also want to take a quick moment to say thanks to Rhian and Sandie for their time and organisation. Without them we would not have had such a great time. Ta, ladies.
I think you deserve some down time, by the pool maybe Rc. lol.
So, to sum it up- I had a great, fantabulous time, learnt heaps, would do it again and recommend it to everyone!!!

Now I have to go apply my new learnt tools to my ms

Holly cow. I can not believe how busy everyone is.
There's the conference in Melbourne, Claytons Conference for all us who cant make it to the other. Which by the way, I, myself am very greatful for. Thank you Sandie and Rhian.

All this being said, I haven't really done a heck of a lot of writing- editing, yes. Writing, no. So I thing it would be a good idea that I get to it.
Tsk, tsk. So much for routine writing. But the plan and intention is still there. hehe.

Back to business

Holidays are over and it's time to get back to the biz of writing.

It's funny how you miss things, during the very quick two week period I missed writing.
After getting into the habit of writing at least two thousand words a day and not doing it, I started to get withdrawls. Yet now, a week out of the hol's and I need to dedicate myself to the challenge once again.

I absolutely loved every moment with all the kids, there were seven of them in my household this holidays plus us two parents, and it was fun!
No I'm not crazy.

Anyone ever seen the great family movie CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN? see it, it's crazy. Yet, I'd love it!

That being said, the excess children have all gone home and I'm left with youngest two and they are back at school and need a routine, I'm actually not far off that need. I need a routine!

So once again, with the experience of 50k in 30days, I have decided to routinely write at the same time of every day.

Hehe, I should have said, I hope to not I have decided. Life gets in the way sometimes. But overall I find I get a lot more done.

It turns out I work better under pressure and within a dead line- GO FIGURE!

Well, enough rambling, I'm off to check out how you all are doing and to write some more. I love this WIP, it's exciting.

Insane Asylum

Well, it's officially school holidays now. The kids are bursting full of energy and nagging for our attention.
Who else is in this boat?
My little gifts are still very tired from a long term of school and for some insane reason all our school sport events occur at the end of term, tiring them out until they are getting sick with every germ imaginable and crankier than a lion with a thorn in its pore with me as the poor scared mouse trying to help them. Help me!
All this being said I will announce a shocking truth: I LOVE THE SCHOOL HOL'S!
Yep, because we can sleep, relax and do what we please. parks, movies and I'm truly lucky to say, my children love reading days. We have the fire going and lay about reading, they tell me about each chapter and how what chapter they're up to. they are so proud of themselves with each chap. We're talking about 8 & 9 yr olds. the 15 & 16 yr olds aren't here yet. They arrive on Sunday for the week. I miss them.
anyone else in that particular boat?
needless to say, i probably wont get alot of writing done, but i think with last month being devoted to that, I'll give myself and the clan a break and devote myself to them.

I must say i lived all my moments and enjoyed them even though they took me away from a bigger word count. As you've probably read, I've been on rides and bought a new bike. yeehah!
DH and I are loving this time as it's the first we've had time to ourselves in twelve years.
Now, i love my babies with all my being, but I've really enjoyed the time with hubby. maybe next time i wont be out enjoying myself so much and actually get some work done. hehe.
Also i finally got my feedback from VP contest, yeeks would be an understatement. yep, it was my first ms and it apparently showed. oh well.
But don't worry, I've learnt alot and the wip i have been doing for the 50k challenge is my new and improved. this one is going to be good, no scratch that. It'll be GREAT!
Once again congrats to everyone, thank you all for your encouragement and thanks for the invite.
without this challenge i would never have written this much in this short of time. it pushed me more than suz does, hehe. luv ya suz.
anyhow, i have to go. i still have two sick girls to help get to sleep/

I should be far more ahead than I am, but alas, you guessed it. I'm not.
here's the number 25,020.
I cracked the half way mark and DH say's it's hump time.
No, not the dirty kind, get your minds out of the gutter. It's like wednesdays, they are hump days because it's all down hill, ie, easier. therefore it should get easier for me.
I dont thnk it works like that honey, I told him with love.
anyway, it turns out that this WIP feels like my best work yet. Go figure.
I wanted to tell you all about it but as you can see i'm behind the eight bal, but I will when the thirty days is up.
It would be great to see others WIP at the end. just something to think about.

Day fourteen & plenty of excuses.

We're nearly halfway through the month and I should therefore be 25,000 wrds in, but alas I'm not. the quota for today is 13,206.
I haven't written in two days and I think i blame DH because he's been home since thur. I CANT DO ANYTHING when he's home. although it wasn't wasted, guess what?
we just ordered a new motorbike to do our trips on and don't I have some yummy plans. Oohlahla, kind of plans.
so with all this being said, I need to increase some numbers.

I'm a bit freaked, as I soaked in the tub and thought about my numbers I realised things are happening rather fast.

I'm Proud!

I'm proud at what I've achieved so far. I wasn't even sure i could get to my humble 8773 wrds, but I'm here and I'm having fun!
It was so funny, i thought i was all that, couldn't believe the words were flowing and I'd reached my number; although i haven't done any today yet. but there i was, swollen head and proud as punch and then i read how wonderful everyone is doing. check out wonder woman Sandie, 20 odd thousand wrds on day six. didn't that pop my fat head. hehe.
I'm now so proud of every ones contribution and i want to say thanks to everyone who helped me get this far.
i have to go and get some numbers up, happy writing.
